Assistant Professor of Architecture (Full-Time, Tenure-Track)

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) seeks an engaged and innovative full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its Architecture Department. The successful candidate will teach foundational architecture courses that support student success in both transfer and career pathways while contributing to a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach architecture courses and maintain high-quality, industry-relevant curriculum.
  • Support student success through effective, inclusive, and innovative teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to advance departmental goals.
  • Adhere to college policies and maintain professional communication with students and colleagues.
  • Contribute to a positive, student-centered academic environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • NAAB-accredited Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree.
  • Minimum three years of professional experience working under the supervision of a licensed architect.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) or Doctor of Architecture (D.Arch.).
  • Architectural licensure and/or LEED AP accreditation.
  • Experience in residential and commercial architecture.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, workforce preparation, and transfer education.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and cross-cultural skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access and retention for historically underrepresented students.

Preferred Teaching Expertise
Ability to teach a broad range of architecture and design courses, including:

  • Architectural Design Studios (2D, 3D, and Architecture Studio)
  • Architectural History and Design Ecologies
  • Revit (modeling, rendering, animation, and construction documents)
  • Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
  • Hand and digital sketching, including watercolor and Adobe Fresco
