Ukrainian designers, architects, and activists regain agency over their environment by employing architectural strategies and practices as a form of resistance against Russia’s ongoing invasion. Based on the authors’ ongoing research of architectural initiatives that began in response to the full-scale invasion of 2022, this paper uses a series of case studies to consider the following questions: How can architecture construct hope? What materials, economies, and collaborations are necessary for building and repairing society? Who can build hope in times of conflict and uncertainty?
