ÌÇÐÄvlog Announces the 2026 Cohort for the Academy for Public Scholarship on the Built Environment: SPATIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH

Faculty to expand and disseminate public discourse on Spatial Determinants of Health
Washington, D.C., July 15, 2026 — The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ÌÇÐÄvlog) and the ÌÇÐÄvlog Research & Scholarship Committee, in partnership with The OpEd Project, are pleased to announce the 2026 Cohort for the Academy for Public Scholarship on the Built Environment: Spatial Determinants of Health.
This cohort brings together twelve architecture faculty whose research explores the spatial determinants of health and seeks to strengthen its impact on public discourse and policy. They will participate in The OpEd Project’s online Write to Change the World workshops, connecting participants with diverse disciplinary backgrounds, voices and ideas. The cohort members will be researching and writing articles that examine the relationship between the built environment, human health, and well-being, as well as architecture’s role in shaping healthier communities.Â

Following the workshop, the cohort will have up to three months of access to The OpEd Project’s Mentor-Editor network for support and individualized feedback as they develop their op-ed drafts. By the end of the training, cohort members are expected to complete the workshops and submit an op-ed for publication in a local, regional, or national news outlet.

The Academy for Public Scholarship on the Built Environment reflects the work of the 2025-2026 ÌÇÐÄvlog Research and Scholarship Committee, which has been charged with leading ÌÇÐÄvlog’s efforts to support faculty in scholarly endeavors; monitoring and assessing peer-review and recognition programs; and recommending actions to advocate for architectural scholarship.

About the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ÌÇÐÄvlog)
The mission of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture is to lead architectural education and research. Founded in 1912 by 10 charter members, ÌÇÐÄvlog is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association of over 200 member schools in several categories. These include full membership for all accredited programs in the United States and government-sanctioned schools in Canada, candidate membership for schools seeking accreditation, and affiliate membership for schools for two-year and international programs. Through these schools, over 5,000 architecture faculty are represented.
ÌÇÐÄvlog, unique in its representative role for schools of architecture, provides a forum for ideas on the leading edge of architectural thought. Issues that will affect the architectural profession in the future are being examined today in ÌÇÐÄvlog member schools. The association maintains a variety of activities that influence, communicate, and record important issues. Such endeavors include scholarly meetings, workshops, publications, awards and competition programs, support for architectural research, policy development, and liaison with allied organizations.
